Deira is one of the oldest and most historic parts of Dubai, located on the eastern side of Dubai Creek, opposite Bur Dubai. Location: Close to Dubai International Airport, bordered by the Creek, Sharjah, and the Persian Gulf. Character: Known as the traditional heart of Dubai, with bustling streets, souks (markets), and a strong mix of cultures. Famous Souks: o Deira Gold Souk – world-famous for gold jewelry. o Spice Souk – aromatic spices, herbs, teas, and traditional goods. o Perfume Souk – traditional Arabic perfumes and oils. • 🚶 Popular Streets: Al Rigga, Naif, Al Sabkha, Baniyas Square – full of shops, restaurants, and busy local life. Transport: Abra (traditional wooden boats) across the Creek, plus metro stations (Union, Baniyas Square, Al Rigga). Culture: A blend of Emirati heritage and expatriate communities (South Asian, African, Arab, Filipino, etc.). Walk along Al Maktoum Road towards Al Sabkha Road The streets are full of small shops selling clothes, perfumes, souvenirs, and electronics. You’ll notice lots of South Asian and African community businesses here. This is one of Dubai’s busiest bus terminals, connecting Deira with other parts of the city.
