The alarm rang at 4:00 a.m. – with the goal of being at Schiederweiher lake in Hinterstoder in time for sunrise. The hope: alpenglow on the mountains, calm water, a touch of morning atmosphere, and maybe a few good photos. In this video, I'll take you along on my photo tour in the Stoder Valley. First, we head to Schiederweiher, where I wanted to photograph the sunrise and the warm light on the mountains. Afterward, I spent the rest of the day exploring the valley further, looking for new subjects, and getting to know the area better, all the way to the head of the valley and the source of the Steyr River. It was mostly location scouting, but days like these are an important part of nature photography for me: getting up early, being outdoors, observing the light, discovering subjects, and sometimes simply enjoying the peace and quiet.
