Place a cup (base cup) upside down on a flat surface. This is your launcher. Then put the "rocket" Cup with rubber bands over the base cup. Holding the lip of the rocket cup, pull down and release! Watch your "rocket" go flying! Try single rubber band Try double rubber bands Try double rubber bands with two rocket cups (this worked best for me) Science behind it POTENTIAL AND KINETIC ENERGY As you stretch the rubber bands over the cup, you are storing up energy by putting tension on the rubber band. This stored up energy is called potential energy. The more the rubber band stretches, the more energy is stored. This is why the further the launcher is pressed down over the cup, the further it flies. When you release the rubber band, the tension is released and the potential energy is transformed into kinetic energy, which is energy in motion. What do you think would happen if you used cups of different materials and strengths (i.e.: size, paper or plastic cups of varying thicknesses)? Test your hypotheses by making rocket launchers with these cups and record your observations. Comment below on how high your rocket flies? What did you use to get it to go so high? What worked best? #rocketlaunching #RubberBandPoweredCupLauncher #rubberbandedcuplauncher
