EVANGELHO DE HOJE – 17/07/2026 | Mt 12,1-8 | PADRE REGINALDO MANZOTTI

Gospel of the Day (July 17, 2026) – Friday | 15th Week of Ordinary Time | Blessed Ignatius of Azevedo and companions, martyrs: "I desire mercy, not sacrifice — Today Jesus defends you before those who only know how to condemn you!" If you have arrived here this Friday… it was not by chance. It was the Lord himself who brought you to this moment to ask you a question that perhaps you have been avoiding for a long time: how long will you live trying to prove that you deserve God's love, fulfilling everything on the outside, but starving on the inside? Perhaps you carry in your heart this weariness of someone who does everything right and still feels accused. You pray, you fulfill, you strive — and in the end you still hear that voice saying that it was not enough. Perhaps you have found people in the Church, in your family, at work, who knew how to point out your error, but never knew how to see your hunger. And in the silence, have you ever thought: "Lord, are you also disappointed in me?" But today, on this day, July 17, 2026, Jesus stands before your accusers and says for you: "If you had understood what this means: 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice,' you would not have condemned the innocent." Stop. Take a deep breath. Let this Word descend to that part of you that still lives defending itself, explaining itself, justifying itself before everyone. In this Friday's Gospel (Mt 12:1-8), the disciples pass through a field on the Sabbath and, hungry, begin to pick ears of grain. The Pharisees immediately see the infraction—they do not see the hunger. And Jesus does not apologize for them: He defends them. Remember David, who ate the offering bread; remember the priests who work on the Sabbath without guilt; And he concludes with a phrase that dismantles all superficial religion: "Here is one greater than the Temple… the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath." 🔥 Today, Jesus teaches you that God is not an inspector counting your failures—He is a Father who sees your hunger. The world, and sometimes even religious people, look at you and only see what you have failed to do. But the Lord looks at you and sees what you are carrying. He doesn't want your cold sacrifice, made with clenched teeth; He wants your heart. And be careful, because the same law you use to condemn yourself, you end up using to condemn others—and Jesus calls you to leave that place today. The first reading for this Friday (Isaiah 38:1-6, 21-22, 7-8) shows King Hezekiah mortally ill. He doesn't make a grand speech: he turns his face to the wall, weeps, and prays. And God answers: "I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears… I will add fifteen years to your life." See? It wasn't a perfect ritual that moved God's heart. It was a sincere prayer and a true tear. God sees what no one else saw in you. And the good news is this: you don't need to impress God to be loved by Him. Your hunger doesn't disqualify you—it draws you closer. Your crying isn't weakness—it's prayer. And when everyone condemns you, there is Someone greater than the Temple who rises up and speaks in your favor. Today the Church remembers Blessed Ignatius of Azevedo and his companions, martyrs—Jesuits who crossed the sea to Brazil and gave their lives for love, without weapons and without retaliation. They didn't die fulfilling a rule: they died loving. That's what believing on an ordinary Friday means—exchanging the religion that only demands for the mercy that gives life. If this Word touched your heart, leave in the comments just one word of what you need most today: mercy, healing, peace, forgiveness, hope, strength, faith, or liberation. 🙏 I will pray for you before the Blessed Sacrament. Share this video with someone who is tired of justifying themselves, tired of being judged, so that they remember that Jesus stands up in their defense, and subscribe to the channel to walk with the Gospel every day. ✨ May the Lord, who hears your prayer and sees your tears, have mercy on your wounds, free you from the weight of condemnation, and give you a heart that knows how to love — today and forever. Amen. 🙏 📌 Important: This channel produces digital content focused on prayer and spiritual edification.
