The Matsuura Railway runs from Arita to Sasebo, passing through Imari, Matsuura, and Tabira Hiradoguchi. It opened as a third-sector company in 1988, taking over from the former Japan National Railways Matsuura Line. Known locally as "MR," it runs along the northern side of the Kita-Matsuura Peninsula, stretching a total length of 93 km.
