Floss without PFAS

PFAS, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), have recently hit headlines again. This time in response to water supplies having more of these "forever chemicals" than previously thought. A few years ago, PFAS jumped on my radar as a study raised concerns about PFAS in floss. Here's the study: https://www.nature.com/articles/s4137... PFAS are a group of chemicals linked to numerous health risks and are found in nonstick, heat-resistant, and water repellent products, like our water supply, furniture, carpets, cosmetics, fast food wrappers, and floss. https://pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acs.... Although the American Dental Association doesn't think you need to worry about it in your floss (https://www.ada.org/publications/ada-..., because these compounds are so pervasive and can bioaccumulate, I think it's smart to limit exposure where you can, including your floss. In the PFAS floss study they analyzed a number of floss brands, here's a list of which one's had detectable fluorine (a sign of PFAS): Colgate Total Dental Floss Mint CVS Health SuperSlip Ease Between Waxed Oral-B Glide Pro-Health Mint Oral-B Glide Pro-Health Original Crest Glide Deep Clean Cool Mint Floss Signature Care Mint Waxed Comfort Floss Here are the one's that didn't (and thus are safer choices to limit potential PFAS exposure): CVS Unwaxed Desert Essence Tea Tree Oil Dental Tape EcoDent Gentle Floss Premium Dental Floss Johnson & Johnson Listerine Cool Mint Mint Floss Johnson & Johnson Reach Clean Paste Icy Mint Woven Floss Johnson & Johnson Reach Mint Waxed Reach Mint Waxed Reach Waxed Unflavored Oral-B Complete Deep Clean Ultra Mint Oral-B Satin Floss Mint Rite-Aid Premium Waxed Mint Floss Tom's of Maine Naturally Waxed Antiplaque Flat Floss What do I use? Well I like to test different kinds, but I'd pick from the lower list (one's without detectable fluorine). I also use a Berkey Water Filtration system ("Big Berkey") to filter all of my drinking water: https://www.berkeyfilters.com/collect...
