A Rainy Day at the Off Grid Cabin in Remote Alaska: Digging, Working Outdoors, and Enjoying a Fire

This day was a particularly rainy one in at our tiny cabin in a remote region of Alaska. Despite the rain, I just about finish digging out the eastern half of the cabin. I’m choosing to do this for a multitude of reasons: to create workspace around foundation pilings that need fixing, to serve as more dry storage space, for better air flow under the cabin, and because it’s the right thing to do. After a few hours of digging and hauling dirt, I shifted my focus to starting a campfire to burn brush, felled a few beetle kill spruce trees and a small birch, and enjoyed using a variety of tools to process the limbs and logs!
