Although the proposed Phou Ngoy Dam in southern Laos may be hundreds of kilometers away from Thailand’s major cities, its impacts will ripple far beyond the dam site, traveling through the Mekong River, disrupting food security, and increasing electricity costs that Thai citizens across the country will ultimately have to bear. This is not just a local issue.
