Como PODAR do jeito CERTO: conheça os tipos de poda
No more fear when you hear the word "pruning" – this video is here to cut your fear once and for all, and in the right way, as all pruning should be: with knowledge and precision. Our gardener Carol Costa explains the various types of pruning and the reasons for the cuts, so you can face the sharp shears, discard insecurity, and let that gardening spirit sprout. In pruning, it's important to use the correct technique and have the right, well-adjusted equipment. The blades must be sharp to prevent the tool from "chewing" and ending up tearing off part of the plant instead of making a cut. The pruning technique must also be "sharp," meaning the gardener must know exactly what they are doing so that the pruning operation has the desired effect and does not harm the plant. Crown Elevation Pruning Pruning can be done on a young tree to raise its crown. In the video example, Carol shows a lophanthera (Lophanthera lactescens), a native tree that produces long, drooping clusters. Cutting the lower branches will create an "upright" tree shape, with branches concentrated at the top of the plant. Another good example is the crape myrtle (Lagerstroemia indica), a shrub with abundant branches, and with uplift pruning, it's possible to achieve that tree-like shape – a long trunk and a full crown. Fruiting pruning The intention of this pruning is to ensure that the fruits growing on the branches receive the right amount of sunlight. The more sunlight the fruit receives, the faster and more uniform its ripening process. Correct pruning removes branches that would block sunlight and, as a bonus, allows better air circulation around the fruit – which is great for its development. Carol uses as an example an astrapéia (Dombeya wallichii) that underwent pruning to remove inner branches. Flowering pruning Perhaps the best known among gardeners, this pruning is done on flowering plants precisely to produce a greater number of buds. The best example is rose pruning, and since our plant enthusiast is at the Bloemen Park rose garden, you'll see how a correct pruning can stimulate the emergence of numerous buds. A huge row of well-pruned "Black Forest" roses produces far more buds than if the plant grew freely. Flower pruning works extremely well on camellias, ixoras, pentas, mussaendas, desert roses, and other flowering species. Training pruning That hedge that looks like a wall because it's so perfect is achieved with this technique. Plants grown with closely spaced branches tend to spread their branches when they grow freely. Training pruning keeps everything in line, removing branches that grow sideways and keeping other plants out of the way. With sharp pruning shears, you remove the thinner, softer branches, and the thicker ones with a shrub trimmer. Topiary Who doesn't remember those animal-shaped shrubs created by the character Edward Scissorhands in the movie of the same name? This technique of shaping boxwood (Buxus sempervirens) and other shrubs is called topiary. To create straight and level lines, a clever gardener uses a stretched string to make the cuts as planned. Of course, a sharp and reliable tool is needed, like a good shrub pruner. Maintenance Pruning Every gardener does this, and some didn't even know it falls into the category of pruning. That broken branch, branches with excessive pests, or even that flower that's starting to look bad, is also maintenance pruning. Carol shows a huge clump of coleus (Solenostemon scutellarioides) in the video. This was just an introduction to the topic; feel free to leave a comment telling us which plant you'd like to see a video of our gardening teacher explaining how to perform the techniques. Cut out your shyness and leave your request in the comments! coleus – https://minhasplantas.com.br/tv/segre...
