On “Ans,” Anda Morts’ debut album, the focus is on politics and attitude, but also on hanging out, drinking beer, and life between youth clubs and the highway. His songs speak their minds directly, without embellishment or euphemisms. In this interview, Andi, as he calls himself for short, explains why political music is important to him but not enough, and why going to demonstrations and making his point is just as important to him. We talk about the Linz youth clubs that shaped him and which, even today, despite sold-out tours in Germany, still provide the foundation for his band. Andi tells us why he doesn’t sing his songs in dialect, how he switched from piano to drums as a child, and why he doesn’t actually like being in the spotlight. His music is direct and uncompromising, while he himself is reflective and composed.
