David Yanacek, AWS | AWS Summit NYC 2026
In this interview from AWS Summit NYC 2026, David Yanacek, senior principal engineer at Amazon Web Services, joins theCUBE + NYSE Wired's Gemma Allen to discuss how AWS DevOps Agent is shifting the enterprise bottleneck from code generation to safe, autonomous deployment and operations. Yanacek explains how DevOps Agent autonomously reacts to production incidents, validates code changes before they reach production and helps organizations keep pace with the surging output from coding agents. He details how the Release Readiness Reviewer uses neuro-symbolic AI and automated reasoning to catch issues — such as a database permission failure and a memory leak — before they cause production impact, as trading platform Derive discovered firsthand. Customers are already seeing three to five times faster time to resolution when DevOps Agent begins investigating incidents before a human is even paged. The conversation also explores the road ahead for agent autonomy, which Yanacek identifies as the most exciting frontier coming out of the summit. He shares a personal on-call story from the prior weekend — using DevOps Agent to investigate a live incident rather than paging colleagues on a Saturday — illustrating how quickly the technology has moved from concept to daily utility. He highlights new releases including Strands, an open-source agent framework with a constrained command-line interface, and AgentCore policy as mechanisms designed to nudge agents toward safer, more governable behavior. Yanacek notes that most teams still rely on agents like a local command-line tool that stops the moment a laptop closes, and argues that truly autonomous, always-on agents represent the next significant threshold for the industry. From expanding coverage across Amazon Q and Kiro to building the guardrails that make autonomous agents trustworthy, he provides a roadmap for how AWS intends to close the gap between experimentation and production-grade agent deployment.
