Mount Suleiman    • Ош и священная гора Сулеймана   Osh, known since ancient times, seems to have always been a major city, standing here on trade routes like a kind of heart, attracting and releasing streams of people and caravans. I visited Osh not for the first time, this time with the @FermerAE team and at the invitation of the wonderful Parday Abdiraimov, to whom we owe endless gratitude. Osh is the second largest city in the modern Kyrgyz Republic (approximately three hundred thousand residents, including its administrative villages). It is unofficially considered the country's second, southern capital, but in terms of cultural influence and historical significance, Osh is perhaps the first. In any case, in terms of antiquity, few cities in Asia can compare with this city. Historians traditionally date the city's age from its earliest mention in historical documents, which dates back to the 9th century. However, it is generally accepted, and officially so, based on archaeological finds, that Osh is over three thousand years old. And while Bishkek is a modern, almost European, and largely secular city, teeming with money and bustle, Osh is truly the East, where eternity resides on its streets, even if modern high-rises have already sprung up alongside the one-story adobe buildings.
