The Parable of the Good Teacher

What does a good teacher teach us about the Christian life? This week’s homily begins with “The Parable of the Good Teacher” and continues our summer theme of looking at different professions as parables for Christian stewardship. A good teacher does not simply pour information into students, but helps them discover, understand, and receive what is true. In the same way, God gives each of us gifts, not as decorations or hobbies, but for the building up of Christ’s Body, the Church. Through Jeremiah, the Psalm, Romans, and the Gospel, we see how God teaches His people truth, forms us by grace, and calls us to share freely what we have freely received. The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
