Mongolia Winter Trip 2023 | Part 2

It was time to start our multi-day journey out of Ulaanbaatar towards the countryside. During the winter, perfectly deep-blue skies are on display above. Below, a blanket of pure-white snow stretches beyond the horizon where the grass fields flourish in the warmer seasons of the year. As stunning as this scene is, it is also an inhospitable environment with temperatures as low as -30°C. Landscape photography takes a very different meaning in these conditions. In this second part of my trip, I found out what life in the winter time is like in the Mongolian countryside. I spent my first night ever in a “ger”, a traditional Mongolian dwelling. I also discovered the town of Kharkhorin and Tsetserleg. The hike of Khorgo Mountain was the last point of the journey before making it to the farthest end of my route in Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake.
