A "Cut and Etch" test can reveal depth of penetration or lack of penetration, and can also show defects such as a lack of fusion in between layers in a multi-pass weld. It's a quick and effective training tool and a good way to evaluate welding techniques, parameters, gases, angles, travel speed, and more.
