His 25-match winning streak came to an end in the Makushita division. The one who stopped him was a former Juryo wrestler of the same age. Why was there a 5-year and 10-month difference in their time in the sumo ring, even though they were both 24 years old? We trace the paths they took, through records and rankings. ▼ Facts covered in this video On July 20, 2026 (9th day of the Nagoya tournament), Asahifuji Hideki (24) of the Isegahama stable's winning streak since his debut in the Jonokuchi division was stopped at 25 when he was defeated by Ikutame Tatsuya (24) of the Futagoyama stable by a thrust-out. The two are the same age (Asahifuji = born May 17, 2002 / Ikutame = born February 22, 2002), but Ikutame made his sumo debut in January 2020, while Asahifuji made his debut in November 2025 (preliminary sumo), a difference of approximately 5 years and 10 months. Ikutame spent 18 tournaments in the Makushita division alone before being promoted to the Juryo division in July 2024. He spent a total of 6 tournaments in the Juryo division. In March 2025, he injured his left knee while ranked East Juryo 5th, and after missing 3 consecutive tournaments, he was demoted to the Makushita division.
