It teaches the student the basics of the martial art. The techniques was inspired by movements from the snake and crane. Sil Lim Tao is the foundation of Wing Chun Kung Fu. That is why almost every Wing Chun Sifu, when teaching his students, always wants the students to practice Sil Lim Tao first. The form is divided into two half with a total of 36 hand movements. By practising the form in a goat stance position, this will strengthen the leg. Teaching the student the basic hand techniques ( Tan Sau, Bong Sau, Fook Sau etc) Helping the student to focus through breathing while practising the form Teaching the student the economy of motion while practising the hands movement. The key principle of practising the form is to relies the important of the centre line in Wing Chun.
