The Forgotten Cherokee Slave Cemetery They’re Trying to Save (Full Documentary)

In Calhoun, Gordon County, Georgia lies a hidden history - one that begins in the burial grounds of people enslaved under the Cherokee Nation, then through the plantations of railroad baron Richard Peters (founder of Atlanta), and emerges in the rise of a Black community of teachers, lawyers, FBI agents and state champions. At the heart of this story is the historic Colbert (Calvary) Cemetery, cared for today by the Gordon County Civic Club - a nonprofit formed by descendants of those buried here. In this Adventures Into History special, we are led by descendants as we uncover headstones and hear stories of families who transformed from enslavement to scholarship, from segregation to success. This isn’t just a cemetery video - it’s of legacy and history that touches us all.
