Jack the Ripper, the most famous murderer in history who inspired countless books, theses, musicals and even board games... Jack the Ripper, a genuine myth all over the world. And yet, contrary to several widely-held beliefs, the murderer is not the first serial killer in history and he only officially killed 5 times in a brief two-month period. Why did he attain such a level of notoriety so fast? Why have entire generations of historians and police officers shown such passion for this killer who was at large almost 120 years ago? Behind all the razzamatazz, it was the biggest criminal case of all time. Despite all the books and studies, we don't know much about who he really was. Perhaps it is because of this mystery that we still speak about Jack the Ripper. If the criminal had been found, tried and hanged, would he still be so fascinating? We seek to understand more about this phenomenon, to explain this fascination and to shatter a few myths.
