Crazy Looking Beetle Sounds Like A Clock!
The Lesser Pine Borer (Acanthocinus nodosus) is an amazing looking beetle that has the longest antennae of any beetle in North America. These beetles are not harmful to trees (unlike other Longhorn beetles), and they are found mostly in the South Eastern states. When their young are feeding on dead trees, it sounds like a sawing or scraping sound and when in a stand of dead Pitch Pine trees, a number of them all chewing at once will sound like ticking clocks, giving the surrounding land a very surreal quality. #wildlife #nature #creepy
