However, under the guidance of Chris Coleman, a squad including Gareth Bale, Aaron Ramsey and Joe Allen surpassed all expectations, with Wales not only winning a group that included Roy Hodgson’s England, but then going on progress all the way to the semi final. They were eventually knocked out by Portugal, who went on to win the tournament, but not without creating some special memories along the way. The most notable of their victories was a 3-1 quarter-final victory over a Belgium side boasting such talents as Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku. Having gone behind to Radja Nainggolan’s long-range rocket, Wales rallied, their indomitable team spirit shining through as a header from captain Ashley Williams, one of the goals of the tournament from Hal Robson-Kanu and a late third from Sam Vokes turned the tie on its head against all odds.  Here, Coleman talks through the tactics he used to beat the second-best team in world football according to FIFA’s rankings at the time, and the fond memories the victory brings back.
