The UK has the oldest and most energy-inefficient housing stock globally, with nearly 19 million homes rated C or below on the EPC scale. Despite calls for reform, millions of households are stuck in poorly insulated homes, often below the income threshold for a decent standard of living. Retrofitting existing homes is essential, as 80% of current houses will remain in use by 2050. As energy prices rise, many homeowners face increasing heating costs, highlighting the urgent need for energy efficiency to avoid wastage.
