English Grammar Lesson in Hindi: Indicative, imperative & subjunctive Verb moods - Learn English through Hindi What we will learn? Indicative Mood Imperative Mood Subjunctive Mood Indicative, imperative, subjunctive Indicative, imperative, subjunctive are the three moods of English verbs. All manners and moods are expressed through these verbs. A mood shows the writer’s attitude toward what he/she is saying. Indicative Mood We use the indicative mood to express: Fact/Assertion- Rain falls quite heavily during the month of April. Heathrow is the world's busiest airport. Opinions- That is a beautiful painting. These chocolate cookies taste delicious. Denial - Oliver cannot speak English. Question - Do you work in the city? Imperative Mood 1. It's used to give commands or to advise or beg someone to do something. 2. We use the imperative mood to express Request: Open the door, please. Please don't talk in lesson. Advice: Just keep calm and relax. Look out! Command: Shut the door!Be quiet! Subjunctive Mood 1. Subjunctive Mood expresses a doubtful condition (contrary to fact) and is often used with an "if" clause. 2. We use the subjunctive mood to express unreal situations, possibility and wish. Unreal: If I were rich, I would buy a sports car. If I were you, I wouldn’t buy a house. Possibility: We might find her ring if we were to look hard enough. Wish: I wish I were more organized. I wish it would stop raining.
