¿Por Qué Los Pilotos Preferían Eyectarse Antes Que Aterrizar Este Caza?
The Vought F7U Cutlass was the last fighter designed by Rex Beisel, creator of the legendary F4U Corsair. Developed in 1945 using captured German aerodynamic data and with the direct involvement of Messerschmitt engineer Woldemar Voigt, this tailless fighter represented the future of American carrier-based aviation. However, its Westinghouse J46 engines delivered a mere 6,100 pounds of thrust compared to the promised 10,000, and its hydraulic system was plagued by frequent failures. Of the 320 aircraft built between 1948 and 1955, more than a quarter were destroyed in accidents that claimed the lives of 4 test pilots and 21 operational Navy pilots—the worst loss rate of any swept-wing fighter in US Navy history.
