Short, Steep, and Scenic - Little Lougheed Hike, Kananaskis, September 30, 2025

September 30, 2025 Distance: 6 km Elevation gain: 735 m Hiking time: 4 hours 45 min Our original hiking plans got rained out, but luckily we had the Little Lougheed trail map downloaded and decided to switch gears on the spot. And wow – Little Lougheed did not disappoint! This hike is short, steep, and rewarding, making it a perfect half-day adventure in Kananaskis Country. The trail takes you through a nice forest, past a magical creek, across rocky slopes and boulder fields, and up to some fun light scrambling near the summit. Once at the top, you’re rewarded with incredible views of Spray Lakes Reservoir and surrounding peaks. Even though rain chased us here, the lingering cloud cover made the views even more dramatic and breathtaking.
