Ask Leroy! Episode 1: Scary Fishing Stories, Cutting Traps, & Average Hauls
Maine Center for Coastal Fisheries is excited to announce that the first episode of “Ask Leroy!” is now live! “Ask Leroy!” is an online video series where Captain Leroy Weed will answer any and all questions about fishing and commercial fisheries here on the coast of Maine. As a retired fisherman with over 60 years of on-the-water experience, Leroy is on a mission to pass along his knowledge and share his experiences of fishing in Maine’s coastal waters. Last summer, Leroy entertained and informed visitors about all aspects of Maine’s fisheries in the Discovery Wharf, our on-site visitation center that features a live touch tank, an interpretive touch wall, and a virtual reality display. Quick with a joke and a tale, Leroy provides genuine sincerity and knowledge from his experience working as a fisherman and living in a hard working fishing community. Due to current limitations the COVID-19 pandemic has put on our ability to engage with the public in-person, we are pleased to announce that you will be able to experience Leroy this summer through this series on YouTube. We’ll be soliciting questions from viewers for Leroy to address each week. We hope this helps keep people interested and informed about Maine’s fishing industry and its importance to our communities. Ever wondered how a lobster trap works? How long to cook a halibut steak? What lobstering was like 50 years ago? Leroy would be happy to answer your questions! Just call 224.58. LEROY (224.585.3769), and his answer to your questions will be shared in an upcoming episode of “Ask Leroy!”
