Irish Hereford Prime Farmer Orla Hogan
Irish Hereford Prime farmer member Orla Hogan lives with her husband Rossa and their four sons on a farm in Tuamgraney, Co. Clare. Alongside cattle farming, they work as silage contractors and also manage slurry with a fleet of trucks. A few years ago, they switched from suckler cows to buying and rearing calves, sourced locally from a cousin. Orla prefers Irish Herefords for their docility and adaptability, thriving on various grounds. They also keep a small flock of sheep, rotating grazing with cattle to naturally fertilise the land and reduce spraying. Their farm features an untouched ringfort, preserving local history, and abundant wildlife like cranes, foxes, and swallows. Orla sees a bright future ahead, with all four sons showing a strong interest in farming and a fondness for the Hereford breed. She believes the breed will always be a part of their farm.
