Die Politik geht nicht entschlossen gegen Islamismus vor , sagt Frau Prof. Schröter
Susanne Schröter is a professor at the Frankfurt Research Center for Global Islam at Goethe University, director of the Institute of Ethnology, and heads the Cluster of Excellence "The Formation of Normative Orders." She was also the director of the Cornelia Goethe Center for Gender Studies. She is a board member of the German Orient Institute. She has been studying Islamic lifeworlds since 2004, when she was appointed to the Chair of Southeast Asian Studies at the University of Passau. These credentials are one reason why she is a sought-after interview partner. But she also speaks plainly: for example, that the men who committed assaults in Cologne on New Year's Eve 2015 were shaped by the deeply patriarchal structures in their home countries. That these structures are also fostered by the rigid sexual morality and the image of women in Islam. That, contrary to the assurances of mosque representatives, Salafism and Jihadism are indeed connected to Islam. Her research finding is that some Muslim youths perceive jihadism as a trivial youth movement. These statements have made her a highly praised yet also heavily criticized scholar. Her critique is directed at societal ignorance and political inaction that disregard the threat to democracy. Maya Zehden in conversation with Susanne Schröter. Her latest book will be published on February 12, 2024: Susanne Schröter: The New Culture War: How a Woke Left Threatens Science, Culture, and Society.
