Perlubie Beach & The Stunning Westall Way Loop | Eyre Peninsula Road Trip - Ep 154

This week on Trip 4 2 Australia, we’re heading to the stunning Eyre Peninsula for a long-awaited adventure. We’ve dreamt about camping on the beach at Perlubie for years, but we quickly realised that the reality of "ghost camping" in South Australia is a different story. After finding the beach fully booked and less than ideal, we pivoted to Perlubie Park—and it turned out to be the absolute highlight of the trip! With its fantastic facilities and welcoming vibe, it served as the perfect base camp for us to explore the rugged beauty of the region. In this episode, we take a deep dive into the Westall Way Loop. We’ll show you the dramatic scenery at "The Granites," explore the coastline around Tractor Beach, and share the fascinating history of Streaky Bay. Named by Matthew Flinders in 1802 for the distinctive streaks of light across the bay, this area has a rich past—from early maritime explorers and whaling stations to the traditional lands of the Wirungu people. Episode Highlights: The Reality of Perlubie: Why you need to book ahead and what to expect at the beach versus the park. Westall Way Loop: A must-do scenic drive with stops at The Granites, Smooth Pool, and more. Base Camp Vibes: Why Perlubie Park is a top-tier choice for your next Eyre Peninsula stay. Travel Tips & Costs: Perlubie Beach Camping: Designated sites only, must be booked online via eyrepeninsula.com/camping. Costs are approximately $20 per night. 4WD is highly recommended for beach access. Perlubie Park: A fantastic alternative with excellent amenities including a camp kitchen, power, hot water, and an off-leash dog area. Be sure to book your site in advance! Westall Way Loop: This 30km scenic drive is free to access and offers some of the best coastal views in South Australia. Historical Note: Streaky Bay was first sighted by Dutchman Peter Nuyts in 1627 and later named by Captain Matthew Flinders. The area is also home to Murphy’s Haystacks—1,500-million-year-old geological wonders that are a photographer's dream.
