La Plata y el Urbanismo del siglo XIX-Higienismo-Evolución de modelos urbanos-Descripción de la ciud
The city of La Plata is located on Argentine territory, approximately 56 km southeast of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires. It was founded on November 19, 1882 as the capital of the Province of Buenos Aires. The product of the most ambitious urban and architectural process in the country, La Plata was born as an advanced city and is one of the first cities in the world to be conceived according to the new rules of urban hygiene and rational construction generated by the scientific advances brought about by the 19th century, where urban planning was permeated by the theoretical postulates of neoclassicism, where the idea of showing a strong, enlightened, modernist and fervent Republic of progress was made evident. The young Argentine Republic, unified only in 1853, encouraged economic prosperity and its insertion into the modern world. The city of La Plata, created in a completely planned manner, in an operation of only five years, is an eloquent example in this sense, it will be the result of a political agreement and of national pacification, an agreement carried out by the so-called "Generation of 80". Born to be the capital of the Province of Buenos Aires in Argentina, in order to allow the federalization as Capital of the Nation to the city of Buenos Aires, the former colonial capital of the Viceroyalty of Rio de la Plata. We can say that two urban models were wisely combined to make a city in La Plata, the heritage of the "Roman-Hispanic" grid city product of the Laws of the Indies and the neoclassical model carried out in the new American republics governed by liberal societies. We are going to describe and analyze it in all its aspects as a successful urban model developed from scratch.
