Week in review Ep20

Here we are in July already, and we’ve been able to tick off just one of those projects on our list, the forward bow locker restoration. This locker has been a hot topic this past season, as it got to a point where it was rapidly declining and because we had already achieved so much on the bow, it was very noticeable. The forward locker is an addition to Faith, built during her 1980’s restoration when she arrived in New Zealand. It is home to the internal gas system for the galley, providing hot water and gas for the cooker. Made from the same teak as Faith’s original build we knew that, with a little bit of time and energy we could restore this locker to it’s former glory. The process was to remove it from Faith, which just so happened to be on the mooring at the time, label and dismantle the box, remove the previous layers of varnish and sand it back. By lowering the centre of the structure Adam was able to ensure either side of the lid of the locker were more flush, ensuring that the hinges had a solid platform. This reduced the movement in the hinges for a more solid construction. Now you’ve all noticed that this “week in review” is just slightly delayed, it’s been over a month since the end of season. While we have done a couple of charters in between, this has been our focus, outlining just how long the restoration process takes.
