RR7516A PHILIPPINES THE MOSLEM REVOLT + CUTS
(18 Apr 1975) RR7516A PHILIPPINES THE MOSLEM REVOLT + CUTS For five years, the Moslems of the southern Philippines have been fighting a war of secession against the government of President Ferdinand Marcos. The rebel force - the Bangs Moro Army - has proved an equal match for the Filipino Army and now controls much of the countryside on Mindanao and other southern islands. Pressure from Islamic nations forced President Marcos to talk with the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) in Saudi Arabia in January 1975 but nothing was agreed. This report looks at the Nur Misuari, who hints that the rebels may adopt Palestinian tactics if their aims are not achieved.
