Our First Day in Macon, Georgia Surprised Us 🇺🇸

📍Macon, Georgia 🇺🇸 Macon surprised us. We spent the day wandering through downtown, admiring the mix of architecture and chatting with friendly locals who seemed genuinely pleased to see two British tourists exploring their city. We took in some of the area's rich music history before stopping at H&H Soul Food for lunch. I ordered chicken fried steak, Paige went for the brisket, and both came with a generous helping of Southern hospitality from the staff. Midway through lunch the skies opened once again, another classic Deep South downpour that has followed us across this trip. With the rain showing no signs of easing, we took shelter at Fall Line Brewing and spent a few hours talking through our first impressions of Georgia. Later we headed to The Rookery, Macon's highest rated restaurant, and it absolutely lived up to the reputation. The signature burger was excellent, the atmosphere felt somewhere between a pub and an old saloon, and the music choice couldn't have been better. Macon feels like one of those places that flies under the radar. Great food, great bars, deep musical roots and a slower pace than places like Nashville or New Orleans. We'd heard plenty of warnings beforehand, but downtown felt welcoming, lively and full of character. If you're looking for a Southern city break without the crowds, Macon is well worth a visit. 👨🏻‍💻 Give us a follow on your favorite social media:   / jackaynsleytravel     / jackaynsleytravel   &   / paigeaynsleytravel     / jackaynsleytravel   &   / paigeaynsleytravel   👋🏼 Support us!
