ПОСЛЕДНИЙ ВЕЧЕР ШУКШИНА: О ЧЁМ ОН ГОВОРИЛ БУРКОВУ?
It's the night of October 2, 1974. The steamship "Danube" is on the Volga, near the village of Kletskaya. Forty-five-year-old Vasily Shukshin—director, writer, actor, and beloved all-Union figure—has gone to bed in one of the cabins. On his desk is the script for a film about Stepan Razin, which he'd dreamed about for over a decade. In the morning, Georgy Burkov went to wake his friend—but couldn't. How did a boy from the Altai village of Srostki, the son of a peasant executed in 1933, become the author of "Kalina Krasnaya," seen by 62.5 million viewers? Why did his mother burn all the documents with her husband's name on them? Why did Goskino keep him from making the most important film of his life for ten years? And why did his first wife, abandoned in their native village, refuse to grant him a divorce for decades? In this film, we follow Shukshin's journey from his Altai hut to the Novodevichy Cemetery—hour by hour, year after year. Without embellishment, but also without gossip. 📚 ABOUT OUR WORK This issue is the result of months of research. We examined dozens of sources: the memoirs of Lidiya Fedoseyeva-Shukshina, Georgy Burkov, Yuri Nikulin, Sergei Bondarchuk, interviews with his mother, Maria Sergeyevna, publications in the Soviet and Russian press, literary studies, official Goskino documents, and medical reports. We honestly separate FACTS from MYTHS. Conspiracy theories have circulated for decades around Shukshin's death—theories of poisoning, "revenge of influential people," and a conspiracy. In the film, we state frankly: not a single one of these theories has received documentary confirmation in over 50 years. The official cause of death, as recorded by the medical report, is acute heart failure. We respect the audience and do not turn tragedy into speculation. ⚠️ IMPORTANT CLARIFICATION Some of the dialogue in the film (the conversation with the doctor at the hospital in 1953, the conversation with Romm at the entrance exam, the final conversation with Burkov, and others) is a fictional reconstruction based on memoirs, interviews, and eyewitness accounts. There are no transcripts of these conversations. We tried to convey the meaning and spirit of what happened, relying on the testimonies of those involved. Where sources differ, we honestly address them on camera. 💬 LET'S TALK? Tell us in the comments: which film or story by Shukshin do you remember most?
