We'll take a metal plate and weld a bolt into it. We'll place a washer on the protruding part of the bolt and screw on a nut. We'll tighten this nut with a torque wrench to a specified force. Then we'll measure the torque required to loosen this nut. To make everything clear and visual, I've created an interactive graph. The axis on the left shows the torque required to loosen the nut. I'll explain right away: the basis of the test is loosening the nut. Using washers, different types of nuts, or chemicals, we'll create conditions that prevent loosening. Then, we'll heroically tighten the nuts with a torque wrench and record the results in a table. We'll conduct two types of measurements: one when the nut is tightened with a torque of 4 newton meters. The other when the nut is tightened with a torque of 7 newton meters. This is necessary to simulate normal and strong tightening. You might ask, "Why 4 and 7?" I'll answer: I chose M5 nuts and bolts for testing. The very first stage of the test is to determine the maximum load the bolts can withstand. To do this, I screwed nuts onto them and tightened them until the bolts failed. I performed four repetitions and calculated the arithmetic mean. It turns out that a torque of 10.9 newton meters is required to fail this connection. This will be the upper limit of our graph. When testing nuts and washers, I'll also do 4 repetitions and calculate the arithmetic mean.
