Maswik South Room Tour, Grand Canyon
Join us on a comprehensive tour of the newly constructed Maswik South Rooms at the Grand Canyon! Discover modern comforts and luxurious amenities set against the backdrop of breathtaking natural beauty. Hear an honest evaluation of the good and the bad. Learn about the lost history of Maswik Lodge, which has been a welcoming haven for travelers since 1926. From cozy accommodations to fascinating stories, this video has it all. Maswik Lodge started in 1926 as the Auto Court, offering both rental cabins, the originals of which are still located across the street from the reception but now house employees, plus a nearby campground that is closed. • The only part of the original lodge left today are the stone pillars at the front of the Reception building and Pizza pub. • Two waves of standard hotel rooms were built in the 1970's, eventually called Maswik North and Maswik South. I have a separate video about the history of Maswik Lodge. • Maswik North soldiers on, but all of the original buildings in Maswik South were leveled and replaced by the New Maswik South, which opened in 2022. • Maswik South has 120 rooms, 30 of which have kitchenettes, and they are the newest rooms in the park, and the first to be built in 50 years. • Unlike Maswik North, South has indoor hallways, something I find less desirable, although the rooms do feature rear porches and colors that are supposed to reflect the Grand Canyon and the buildings are named after fossils. • Maswik was originally intended to serve people of modest means, but the least expensive rooms Xanterra offers are now in Bright Angel Lodge, although Maswik regularly discounts its rooms off-season and offers a 20% discount for two night stays and a 30% discount for 3 night stays (Stay2 & stay3) in the off season. • Current rack rates on the rooms at Maswik South are $391 for a standard room with 2 queens or a king, and $511 for the same with a kitchenette. All rooms are subject to a 6.9% tax. The kitchenette is $120 more per night than a comparable Maswik South room and $164 more than room at Maswik North, an additional expense that I would find hard to justify. I am only staying in this room now because my regularly reserved North room was unavailable due to remodeling. • Maswik South Rooms are also the furthest walk from the rim of any Maswik rooms. However, some guests may find the newness of the buildings justifies the additional charge. #MaswikLodge #GrandCanyon #RoomTour #TravelVlog #HistoricLodge #LuxuryTravel
