Fur seals are pinniped marine mammals belonging to the family of eared seals. Their closest relatives are animals with another "cat" name - sea lions. In total, there are 7-9 species of fur seals (scientists have not yet come to a consensus on exactly how many), which are divided into two genera — northern fur seals (1 species) and southern fur seals (all other species).
