Peter Tush: Max Ernst, Vision and Transformation
Coffee with a Curator – Peter Tush: "Max Ernst, Vision and Transformation" January 8, 2020 Coffee with a Curator is a focused, theme-oriented presentation on a variety of Dalí-related topics. The talk is presented by one of the Dalí Museum’s Curatorial/Education team or an invited speaker. Join Peter Tush, Curator of Education, for an exploration of the life and work of surrealist Max Ernst, whom André Breton declared as possessing “the most magnificently haunted brain” of any of the surrealists. His career spanned from the roots of Dada through the end of Surrealism, and Ernst painted some of the most astounding images associated with Surrealism, including The Joy of Life and Europe After the Rain II. He was a master of collage and developed influential new techniques such as frottage and decalcomania. He was astutely aware of Freud, mastering the visual pun and developing a bird alter ego in his work named Loplop. And throughout his life, he was a lover of many of the women associated with Surrealism, particularly Dalí’s future wife, Gala Éluard. This talk will conclude by viewing Ernst’s influence on relation to Dalí. For information on upcoming events at The Dalí visit: https://thedali.org/events.
