30 Dangerous Things for Hamsters Part 2
In this video I talk about 10 things that are dangerous for hamsters. There is part 1 already and I will make a part 3 soon (There are so many dangerous things!). If you think of any dangerous things for hamsters that were not mentioned in the 2 videos let me know in the comments. Guest Hams: Penelopa & Beba Special thanks to: M. P. G. Ena Beribak Transcript Number one. Bendy bridges. It is very common for hamsters to get their foot stuck in the gaps. This often leads to a broken toe or foot or the hamster panics and chews its own foot off. You can prevent this by putting dried sphagnum moss in the gaps. Number two. Edible toys. Some edible toys like snack shak are made of *pineshavings and honey. The honey tempts the hamster to eat the toy but *pine shavings are not supposed to be eaten. Always check what toys are made of. Number three. Scented bedding. Scented bedding can lead to respiratory issues since hamsters have a very sensitive respiratory system. The strong smell is also too intense for hamsters who are very good at picking up smells. They use the sense of smell to orient themselves since they have bad eyesight so scented bedding would confuse them. Number four. Wire and mesh wheels. Wire and mesh wheels often lead to injuries such as a broken nail, toe, foot or leg. This is because the hamster's leg falls through the holes in the wheel. They also cause bumblefoot, which is a very painful condition. Wheels must have a solid running surface. No holes of any kind. Number five. Wire playpens Wire playpens are dangerous for two reasons. The hamster can climb them and fall back down from a significant height, which can lead to injury. The other thing is that your hamster can escape the playpen by climbing and get themselves into danger. Playpen walls should be hard to climb. Number six. A small wheel. Small wheels cause the hamster's back to bend into a u-shape and if used for a while lead to permanent spine injury. This is painful for the hamster and will cause more and more problems as they get older. Number seven. Other hamsters. Hamsters are very territorial so if you put them together in the same cage they will often fight and one hamster can end up malnourished, injured or dead, This is the norm. Adult hamsters who get along are very rare and you never know if one day they'll just decide to kill each other. Number eight. Hot glue. Even if you use the non-toxic kind it can still be dangerous. This is because it cannot be digested. If your hamster eats it, it can create a blockage in the intestines which would require surgery or could be fatal. If your hamster is a chewer avoid hot glue. Number nine. Fruit. Fruit contains a lot of sugar so it should be given rarely and in very small quantities as it can lead to obesity. Fruit is especially dangerous for dwarf hamsters since they are prone to diabetes. Number ten. Plastic. Soft types of plastic are dangerous because they can be easily eaten by your hamster. Hard plastics are safer but if your hamster insists on chewing the plastic item you need to remove it. Plastic can cause a blockage or injury in the intestines which could be fatal. That's all for part two. I will be making part three next so if I missed any items that are dangerous please let me know in the comments. If you found this video useful, please like and subscribe.
