Trump's travel ban system restricts access from approximately 40 countries. Africa, which has a record ten teams competing in this tournament, is the continent most heavily impacted. France fans from Iraq have been unable to use consular links with the US. Scottish fans have reported last-minute changes to their approved travel authorizations flipping back to pending just days before their flights. The United States flag was also booed during the opening game ceremony in Mexico City. Meanwhile Zohran Mamdani the mayor of New York has set up a lottery system giving regular New Yorkers access to much cheaper World Cup tickets, created watch parties across the city, and has been out in bars watching games alongside fans.
