How to Remove Automatic Transmission on 3rd Gen C3 Corvette
This video shows you how to remove an automatic transmission on a third generation C3 Chevrolet Corvette, model years 1967-1982. This is a relatively straightforward procedure, but it is important to follow the steps carefully to avoid damaging the transmission or other components. Wrench set 2. Socket set 3. Jack stands 4. Transmission jack 5. Drain pan Instructions: 1. Park the car on a level surface and set the parking brake. 2. Place the car in Park and turn off the engine. 3. Disconnect the negative battery cable. 4. Raise the front end of the car and support it on jack stands. 5. Place the transmission jack under the transmission and raise it slightly. 6. Drain the transmission fluid into the drain pan. 7. Disconnect the transmission fluid cooler lines. 8. Disconnect the electrical connector from the transmission. 9. Disconnect the shifter cable from the transmission. 10. Remove the bellhousing bolts and remove the bellhousing. 11. Carefully remove the transmission from the car. To install the new transmission, simply reverse the steps above. Be sure to use a new gasket and filter, and to fill the transmission with new fluid. Here are some additional tips for removing and installing an automatic transmission on a third gen C3 Corvette: Be careful not to overtighten the bellhousing bolts. Make sure that the transmission is properly aligned before installing the bellhousing. Use a torque wrench to tighten the bellhousing bolts to the proper specifications.
