AC Cooling Weakly? The Danger of Freon Leaks in R22 Substitutes | Lesson 14

assalamu aleykum, dear friends and colleagues! In Lesson 14 of our series on why air conditioners cool weakly, we tackle a critical issue: gas leaks in R22 substitute refrigerants like R407C. If your AC uses a blended refrigerant, a simple gas leak creates a massive problem. Because these substitutes have a "temperature glide" , the components inside them have different boiling points. When a leak occurs, the gas with the lowest boiling point (like R32) escapes first, which drastically changes the composition of the entire freon mixture. In this video, we explain:The Top-Off Trap: Why it is completely wrong to just add gas to a system that has leaked a blended substitute. The Liquid Rule: Why you MUST charge freons like R407C in liquid form with the cylinder turned upside down. Proper Procedures: The absolute necessity to recover the old gas, fix the leak with nitrogen, vacuum, and recharge. Capacity Calculation: Why you should only fill 95% of the data plate amount due to the ~5% lower density of R407C compared to R22. The Environmental Paradox: Are these new substitutes actually causing more harm to global warming due to improper venting?. Whether you are dealing with standard split systems or complex VRV/VRF units, understanding fractionation is essential for every technician.
