The May SEC FFI Fly of the Month; the Tutti Fruiti Kreelex

In my opinion the Kreelex fly is a must have fly for your fly box. My experience in this fly has proven to be an “All Water, All Fish” fly by catching bream, bass, bowfin, catfish, pickerel, white perch, yellow perch in freshwater and also redfish, speckled sea trout, and sheepshead in saltwater. While I have not yet tried the Kreelex for trout, this fly had been designed by Chuck Kraft for trout and as I have mentioned that his fly has earned the distinction as an effective streamer for all types of fish. Traditional Chuck Kraft: Material List: • Hook: Streamer Hook, either 3XL or 4XL, Size Range: 2 - 10 • Thread: 140 or 210 Denier, White • Eyes: Dazl Eyes, Nickel, Sized to the hook • Tail/Belly: MFC Kreelex Fish Flash Material, Silver • Back: MFC Kreelex Fish Flash Material, Gold My take on the Tutti Fruiti Kreelex for Redfish, Speckled Sea Trout, Flounder: Material List: Hook: Mustad Hook S71SAP, Size #2 Thread: 140 or 210 Denier, Chartreuse Eyes: Real Eyes Plus, Nickel/Pearl, Size 5/32 Inch (4mm) (Medium) Tail/Belly: MFC Kreelex Fish Flash Material, Chartreuse Back: MFC Kreelex Fish Flash Material, Hot Pink If you would like to tie the Lowcountry Kreelex use MFC Kreelex Fish Flash in purple for the tail/belly and black for the back and thread will be purple. I have used polar flash for the Kreelex flies but for me the colors are not as bright but will catch fish. I have some buddies that use flashabou as well but is a little more difficult to handle when tying with this material in my opinion. If you have a fly that you would like to share for the SEC FFI Fly of the Month please send me information about the fly, instructions along with step-by-step photos to [email protected] and I will put it together for the newsletter. If I don’t receive anything during May, I will do a series for flies for the upcoming SEC FFI trout trip in October. Why Join the FFI? Check Us Out: https://www.flyfishersinternational.o...
