The Army’s new XM7 rifle promises “one-shot overmatch.” Swap calibers, add a smart optic, and suddenly every rifleman becomes a sniper — at least on paper. But what if the real problem isn’t the rifle, but how we use it? In this video, I break down what the XM7 and its 6.8×51 mm round are supposed to do, why the Army thinks it needs them, and how the weapon could change — or fail to change — what a rifleman actually does on the battlefield. We’ll look at the tradeoffs: fewer rounds, heavier magazines, and the age-old question of whether suppression or precision wins fights. And we’ll talk about what “one-shot lethality” really means when you’re fighting in teams, not as individuals. Because weapons don’t win wars. People and logistics do.
