Cars crossing the tracks: expanding the Viessmann Car System into the city
In this episode we expand the Viessmann Car System into the industrial area and the edge of the city. The tricky part: the cars have to cross the railway, but we run Märklin track, which is magnetic and pulls the vehicles off course. Our solution is a section of DC track with a conductive road surface between the rails, so the cars keep their steering while trains pass over the same spot. Along the way Sven Magnus builds up the kerb and pavement, we fight galvanic corrosion (and one aluminium cable that was far too thick), lay Depron for the roadbed, and install Swiss warning lights from Busch at the level crossing. We test whether two trucks can pass while a train is standing on the crossing, add a hidden waiting area using the Faller "Beethovenstraße" kit, and make our most stupid mistake of the year with a warping piece of cardboard. This is the first version of the layout in this area: two turnouts will be added to the street when we expand west of the city later on. Next episode: how the whole country came to us. 00:00 Expanding the Car System into the city 01:00 Crossing Märklin track: the DC-rail solution 01:37 Making the road conductive 02:43 Extending the layout and laying Depron 04:32 Swiss warning lights for the level crossing 05:28 Testing the crossing with two trucks 06:27 Faller "Beethovenstraße" waiting area 06:45 The cardboard mistake 07:46 Testing and adjustments DISCORD → / discord TWITCH → / thetrainroom FACEBOOK → / trainroom.heggedal PATREON → / polybosstudio #Modelrailroad #Märklin #Trains
