10 Tips To Better Use Endmills
G'day everyone, It may be surprising to learn that after tooling and material costs, endmills are probably the biggest expense in running a small hobby shop. This is partly down to me buying a lot of my cutters from Australian, Taiwanese and Japanese brands, but also because endmills are naturally expensive tools to make. Complex geometry that needs to be cut and ground. It also does not help that any damage cannot be repaired, they are easy to damage and because of their design, they wear unevenly. Because of these factors I have several strategies in place to minimize costs, prevent wear and make use of broken endmills. These are rules that I have picked up over the past 10 years (ever since I had to pay for my own endmills) and I hope that you can learn a tip or two that you weren't previously aware of. I hope you enjoy the video. #machining #machiningtips Timestamps 0:00 - Endmills are an expensive consumable 4:08 - Tip 1 - Use Indexable Carbide wherever possible 5:23 - Tip 2 - Use Roughing Endmills 6:57 - Tip 3 - Manage Heat 8:34 - Tip 4 - Avoid Recutting Chips 9:37 - Uneven Endmill Wear 10:31 - Tip 5 - Maximise Flute length that is used 11:23 - Tip 6 - Minimise Endmill Flute Length 11:57 - Tip 7 - Experiment with bull nose cutters 13:02 - Tip 8 - Use the sharp part of broken/worn endmills 13:47 - Tip 9 - Reserve sharp endmills for materials that need them 14:36 - Tip 10 - Reserve endmills for materials based on material Get the most from your endmills Guide for using endmills Milling machine
