Mathieu Plane, economist, deputy director of the analysis and forecasting department at the OFCE (French Economic Observatory), and lecturer at Sciences Po Paris and the Sorbonne, is our guest. In its latest report on "the wealthy in France," published on Tuesday, the Inequality Observatory sets the "wealth threshold" at twice the median standard of living in France: €4,292 per month after taxes for a single person, €6,400 for a couple, and €10,700 for a couple with two teenagers. This represents 7.5% of the population, or 4.8 million people, according to this association specializing in the analysis of social inequalities. Yet, among the wealthiest individuals, a large proportion consider themselves to be middle class. What does it mean to be rich? How can we reduce inequality?
