The Lock 7 Experience: Time-Lapse & Ultra-Close Transit

Another Algoma workhorse of the great lakes, but she never started her life as a vessel destined for fresh water, she was built as a Salty! The Algoma Guardian was originally named Omisalj when it was built in 1987 by 3 Maj Brodogradiliste in Rijeka, Yugoslavia (now Croatia). Original Name: Omisalj (1987–1997) Built For: Jugolinija (Yugoslav state-operated shipping line) Later Name: Goviken (1997–2008), after being sold to Viken Shipping Current Name: Algoma Guardian (acquired by Algoma Central in 2008). We catch up with this mighty fine ship up at lock 7 of the Welland Canal as she slips into the lock, we have a time-lapse video capturing the ship enter and rise. Then we walk canal side as the ship exits the lock for her journey up to lock 8. Great close up action of a great ship.
