I imagine Jesus’ disciples huddled around a campfire for the night, on their journey north to Caesarea Philippi, far from the shores of the Galilee. They had entered pagan territory, where the god Pan was worshipped by all sorts of disgusting and evil practices. It was in this place, named The Gates of Hell, that Jesus asked His followers who they believed Him to be. Eventually, Simon Peter answered with confidence. He’d seen enough.
