I grew up on JRPGs during the golden PlayStation era. Xenogears, The Legend of Dragoon, Shadow Hearts, and Breath of Fire were just a few of my all-time favorites. Back then, the genre offered an incredible variety of experiences and was absolutely booming, a trend that would continue for many years. Then came a noticeable decline in turn-based RPGs, but thankfully, the genre has made a strong comeback, which is exactly why I’m here: to recap some of the most exciting upcoming JRPGs currently in development that capture the spirit of the classics so many of us grew up loving. This list focuses on upcoming JRPGs and RPGs inspired by them, and a few hybrids that sit close enough to the genre to deserve attention.
